The power of design to outsmart global regulations.

Who are they?
UPL is a global sustainable agriculture company with over 14,000 products spanning over 140 countries.

What did they need?
In a highly regulated space, they needed a new look and feel for packaging that satisfied stringent requirements while also looking fresh, natural and inviting. However, different countries had different regulations and that made finding a unified look almost impossible without stripping away all interest.

What did we do?
Looking at the differing requirements, we realized one group of countries could only show imagery that was photographic and portrayed the crop that the product was intended for. Other countries wouldn’t allow photography at all, and all designs had to be purely graphic. With that, we set about creating a style that would have an “either / or” look, depending on the region, yet overall would packaging would feel consistent.

What happened
Our new design theory flowed through thousands of products around the globe and became the standard for their look and feel across packaging, events and collateral.
